Training
Cormonachan Community Woodlands organises periodic training for volunteer members in essential skills, such as Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW), chain saw proficiency, pesticide use and trimmer training. Details will be posted on this website when courses are being organised.
Recent examples include:
- Emergency First Aid at Work in 2019, 2022 and again in 2025, noting that volunteers who are still active are encouraged to refresh their skills every 3 years. This is a full day course and has been held in Lochgoilhead Village Hall, organised by West Coast First Aid. We obtained a 90% grant from Scottish Forestry’s Community Grant allowing the course to remain free to members. We are not due to seek funding for another similar course until 2028.
- Chain saw use – a Lantra Awards course was held in December 2024, again funded by Scottish Forestry Community Fund. This is a full week course, run for 4 volunteer members certifying them in maintenance, cross-cutting and basic felling of trees up to 200 mm diameter. It is an expensive course and volunteers trained through CCW funding are expected to participate annually in the essential small tree felling required in the woodlands.
